Types of Electric Heating Systems
At Thermal Fluid Systems, Inc., we offer three main types of electric heating systems: flanged, immersion, and circulation heating.
Flanged Electric Heaters
Flanged electric heaters are a type of electric process heater that features one or more flanges or raised edges around the perimeter of the heating element. These flanges help improve the heat transfer between the heating element and the surrounding air, making them ideal for applications with high levels of heat.
It can also heat corrosive solutions, heat transfer fluids, oil, and water. Each system comprises bent tubes connecting to a central flange containing liquids at high-pressure levels.
One of the key advantages of flanged electric heaters is their versatility. They come in various sizes, power levels, and setups for use in different commercial and industrial environments.
Immersion Heaters
Immersion heaters heat a nichrome wire element encased in ceramic submerged in the heating fluid — often water. As electricity causes the element to heat up, the water around the element also heats up. As the water passes through the heating element and rises to the top of the vessel, a convection current will build up to ensure even heat distribution.
They are usually made from various materials, including stainless steel, copper, and brass. The material used depends on the application and the type of liquid that will be heated.
For example, stainless steel is often used in applications where the liquid is corrosive, such as swimming pools. Copper and brass are better suited for applications where the liquid is not corrosive, such as in domestic hot water tanks.
Circulation Heaters
Circulation heaters are electric process heaters used to heat liquids and gases. They are also called circulating heaters, water bath heaters, oil bath heaters, or tube bundle heaters.
Circulation heaters are heating elements (coil or tubular) inside a chamber or piping system. The heated fluid circulates through the chamber or piping and then undergoes heating. This type of electric heating system offers many advantages, including high thermal efficiency, a small footprint, low maintenance, and compatibility with a wide range of gas and liquid fluids.
